High School Scholarship

Students who attend a School District of Philadelphia public high school or charter high school are considered for a limited number of scholarships for the Penn Summer Prep Program or Summer Academies.

Scholarship students are now required to stay on campus for the program, and have access to:

  • Academic facilities
  • On-campus housing
  • Three meals a day Monday–Friday
  • Two meals on Sunday (no meals Saturday due to excursions/activities)
  • Extracurricular activities and trips
  • Student supervision
  • Gym access (may be available for an additional fee)
  • Linens
  • Laundry

Students should note that the following items are not included:

  • Travel to/from campus at the beginning and end of the program
  • Class materials
  • Meals eaten off campus
  • Medical expenses
  • Souvenirs
  • Personal spending money

Eligibility

  • Current 9th, 10th, or 11th grade student
  • Philadelphia resident
  • Attend a School District of Philadelphia public or charter high school
  • Minimum 3.3 high school GPA
  • Well-written essays
  • Strong letter of recommendation
  • Demonstrated financial need

Application

Submit an online application for Penn Summer Prep or the Summer Academy of your choice. Follow the application instructions and requirements outlined on our Application Information page.

  • Applicants indicating that they are from the School District of Philadelphia will automatically have the application fee waived.
  • As you complete the online application, when asked if you attend a School District of Philadelphia school, select “Yes” to be considered for the scholarship. Once your application is reviewed, you will receive an email with a survey to complete regarding your financial details and eligibility. Complete and return the form by Mar 15th for scholarship consideration.
  • Scholarship decisions will be released during our admissions release window of April 1 to April 15. During that time, students will find out if they were admitted to the program with a scholarship if they were admitted without a scholarship, waitlisted, or unable to be offered admission to their program of choice.
